10 Minutes With Nigeria's 'It' Female Model

As far as the Nigerian fashion circle goes, Makida Moka is no stranger here. Since she burst onto the scene after winning the Face of Sleek competition in 2009, Makida has walked the runway of almost every major fashion show including the Arise Fashion Week, Music Meets Runway and the recently concluded Lagos Fashion and Design Week.


Born in Cairo, Egypt to a Caribbean father and Nigerian (Igbo) mother, Makida has modelled for several A-list Nigerian designers including Lanre Da-Silva Ajayi, April By Kunbi, Jewel By Lisa, Tiffany Amber amongst others.

We caught up with the North American University (Communications) graduate at theLagos Fashion and Design Week for a quick chat.

When I'm Not Modelling I'm...

Acting. I started a bit of acting this year. I'm on Ndani TV's 'Gidi Up'. There's also a soon-to-released telenovella which I featured in called 'Taste of Love', so look out for that.

My Style is...

Very laid back. I'm a t-shirt, jeans and flat sandals kinda girl but then I can also go glam if the occasion calls for it.

I Absolutely Love The Designs Of...

Quite a few people actually but off the top of my head, Elie Saab, Lisa Folawiyo, Bridget Awosika, Tiffany Amber, Grey and many others.

If I Could Raid Anyone's Closet It Would Be...

Victoria Beckham's because I can fit into her clothes!

The First Item I Ever Bought With My Own Money Was...

A pair of shoes. I was really proud of them.

Every Lady Should Have...

A healthy dose of confidence and a good lip-stick

I'd Love To Work With...

Any great designer. If they want the look I have then it's great, we can work together.

I'll Eventually Branch Into...

Other areas of fashion although I'm not sure what exactly for now but I'm thinking about it because you can only model for so long.

I'm Currently Bumping To...

"Am I Wrong" by Nico And Vinz. I really love that song. I also like Wizkid a lot because I think he works really hard. There isn't any time of the year that there isn't a Wizkid song out and that takes a lot of hardwork to achieve.

A Perfect Date For Me Would Be...

Great food and conversation in a corner of a restaurant.

I Stay Fit By...

Not doing much really (general laughter). I know a lot of people could hate me for it but I don't do that much. Asides the fact that I don't eat so much, my metabolism is really fast. But people are saying that I'm beginning to develop a butt. I just woke up one morning and wondered what's going on?

My Guilty Pleasure Is...

Sitting at home on Friday nights to watch TV while I eat popcorn!

I'd Go On A Date With...

David Beckham. I adore Justin Timberlake as well but I still want to get married to John Legend!
