According to the governor, the ruling party politicians use Borno as their “fishing pond” which they visit only when it is beneficial for them and abandon as soon as their “selfish ends” are achieved.
Shettima made the comments while speaking after he had supervised the swearing in of 27 chairmen of caretaker committees of state LGAs in Maiduguri on September 20, Leadership reports.
He charged the new chiefs to demonstrate dedication in their work for the sake of Nigerians. Shettima also took a swipe at the opposition politicians saying they would continue to fail in the elections because of being unable to identify themselves with the people.
The governor commended those truly dedicated to serving the country and each part of it:

Shettima urged the new chairmen first of all to use their tenure to improve the condition of Borno State citizens and expressed hope that their achievements would help him smoothly make the way towards his second term bid.
“Politicking is around the corner, but we should remember that there is no better politics than the contentment of the masses; there is no greater politicking than working for the overall interest of the people; I urge you all to rededicate yourselves to the cause of good governance and to the cause of attending to the needs of our people, especially now that we are even being faced with the challenges of food security.”
